But what exactly does this type of logistics entail? This concept is becoming increasingly widespread in the goods transportation sector.<\/strong> Let\u2019s take a closer look at the definition of integrated logistics<\/strong>, how it works, and the advantages it can bring to companies.<\/p>\n

What is integrated logistics?<\/h2>\n

Integrated logistics is an innovative process<\/strong> for planning<\/strong>, implementing<\/strong> and controlling<\/strong> all activities that constitute the transportation and flow of raw materials and semi-finished and finished products from their place of origin to the end customer. These processes include:<\/p>\n

    In order to provide a complete overview of integrated logistics, it\u2019s necessary to take a step back in time. Up until the 1960s, traditional logistics<\/strong>, that is, all activities required to move a product from the supplier to the consumer, were carried out with a fragmented<\/strong> approach where divisions remained divided and were managed independently. In later years, this approach was replaced by an integrated system<\/strong> based on the strategic co-ordination of all management activities<\/strong> in order to make it more efficient, reduce time and costs, and better satisfy customer needs.<\/p>\n

    Integrated logistics: how it works<\/h2>\n

    So how does<\/strong> integrated logistics work<\/strong>? First, integrated and flexible logistics require a high degree of digital maturity for all operations<\/strong>, those related to storage and dispatch, as well as the real-time tracking of goods.<\/p>\n

    To make this complicated system easier to understand, it can be divided into two streams<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

    \u2013 Physical flow<\/strong>, the operational aspect of logistics including procurement, production support, distribution, and eventual recovery;<\/p>\n

    \u2013 Information flow<\/strong>, related to on demand information, logistical planning phases, production schedules, and supply chains.<\/p>\n

    It is essential to optimize these flows<\/strong> to reach efficiency<\/strong>, profitability,<\/strong> and quality<\/strong> of service objectives, to satisfy new customer needs,<\/strong> and to be competitive<\/strong> in today\u2019s market.<\/p>\n
